It was a wild weekend for the 48th annual Frontier Days, held June 14-15 in downtown Edgerton. From the kangaroos to the 80s glam rockers to the high-flying carnival rides, families enjoyed the beautiful weather.

The parade on Saturday had folks lined up along Nelson Street for the candy and Hostess treats that were tossed out. Grand Marshal Patrick Robinson, the VP of Development at NorthPoint, rode in an orange convertible driven by Council Member Ron Conus. The firefighters blared the sirens on the firetrucks to the delight of many children. The Gardner Edgerton High School band and color guard marched down the street playing a lively tune, with the sousaphones providing the base for the rat-a-tat-tat of the drummers and the quick melodies of the trumpets and the flutes.
The parade entry winners were GEHS Band, New City Church and Dee Hay Crist with Prairie City Miniature Horses.
Music also capped the evening festivities. On Friday, 80s rock band Vixen headlined on the stage. Saturday’s show was a bit abbreviated because of impending storms. The country rock band Kentucky Headhunters started early, so they could get their set in before the skies let loose.
The auction on Saturday evening lasted nearly 2 hours and brought in nearly $3,900, which will be used for next year’s event.
The Frontier Days Committee would like to thank the event sponsors including NorthPoint Development, Kansas Gas Service, The DeLong Co., Enright Gardens, Dee’s Mini Mart, DEMDACO, Voights Farms, City of Edgerton, Columbia Capital Management, Bruce’s Funeral Home, Central Bank of the Midwest, and Brandon Otto Auctioneering Service.
