The City of Edgerton annually proclaims April as Fair Housing Month. The City is committed to the mission and intent of the United States Congress to provide fair and equal housing opportunities for all individuals.

What is the Fair Housing Act?

The Fair Housing Act protects people from discrimination when they are renting or buying a home, getting a mortgage, seeking housing assistance, or engaging in other housing-related activities.

The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing because of:

  • Race
  • Color
  • National Origin
  • Religion
  • Sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation)
  • Familial Status
  • Disability

How do I report a violation of the Fair Housing Act?

Because there are time limits on when an allegation can be filed with HUD after an alleged violation, you should report housing discrimination as soon as possible.  You can report a violation to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) at this link:
