Save Water in the Summer

Kara BanksCity News

As we enter the hottest part of the summer, it’s a good time to think about water conservation. The City’s water rates encourage residents to use less water. Not only does it help your budget, but you’ll also help conserve a precious resource.

Here are a few ways you can help reduce your water use during the summer:

  • Use a rain barrel or cistern to capture rain water and use that to irrigate your garden
  • Plant native or drought-tolerant plants that require less water
  • Sweep driveways, sidewalks, and decks instead of using water to rinse off dust and debris
  • Use a soaker hose or drip irrigation system to water plants more efficiently and reduce water evaporation
  • Water early in the morning so that plants have time to drink before the water evaporates
  • Step on your grass. If it springs back, it doesn’t need water

The average Edgerton resident uses about 3,000 gallons of water per month.
