Fireworks are part of Fourth of July traditions for many families. The City of Edgerton wants residents to remain safe and follow the rules and regulations for setting off fireworks.

When can I buy fireworks?
The City allows fireworks to be sold between June 27 and July 4, from 8:00 a.m. to midnight. Vendors must obtain a permit from the City and have an inspection prior to beginning sales.
When can I set off fireworks?
Fireworks can legally be set off within Edgerton City limits on July 3 between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. and on July 4 from 10:00 a.m. until midnight.
Under municipal code, fireworks are not allowed to be discharged on public streets, sidewalks or alleys, within 1,000 feet of any school or City building, or in any public park. Do not throw fireworks at other people, animals or at vehicles. Bottle rockets and M80s are illegal in Kansas and extremely dangerous. The use or sale of these banned fireworks is considered a crime under Kansas law. It is also illegal in Kansas to shoot fireworks on or under any vehicle, within 50 feet of a fireworks stand or where fireworks are stored, and at gas stations or any place liquid gas – including propane – is stored.
Fireworks Safety Tips
Here are a few safety tips for setting off fireworks:
- Never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks
- Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy, in case of fire or other mishap
- Light fireworks one at a time, then move quickly away from the fireworks device
- Never try to relight or handle malfunctioning fireworks
- Always ignite outdoors
- Light from a solid, flat and stable platform
- Make sure fireworks debris is cooled off completely before disposing
- Store fireworks in a cool, dry place
- Use a long-handled lighter
