The Edgerton City Council voted to approve the 2025 Budget during their meeting on August 22. This conservative and balanced budget focuses on investment in key priorities – community facilities, buildings, infrastructure and public safety, as identified by the biennial Citizen Survey.

The mill rate for 2025 authorized by the Council is 29.550, a decrease of 0.6%.  The City of Edgerton has lowered the mill rate by over 14 mills since 2009.

“We again lowered the mill levy while maintaining the high-quality services that our residents and businesses have come to expect,” says Mayor Donald Roberts. “This is a budget that supports future growth and quality-of-life for our residents and business community. We thank staff for their hard work.”

The coming year also marks a major milestone at Logistics Park Kansas City as the first property tax abatements are rolling off, resulting in an increase in the City’s assessed valuation. Much of that revenue will be used for operations at the new community gathering place, The Greenspace, in downtown Edgerton. The Greenspace is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2025.

Balancing the budget for the City of Edgerton requires a careful approach to managing limited resources while addressing the diverse needs of the community. The 2025 budget continues to shift the tax burden off residents. Only 15% of the property tax revenue comes from residential properties in 2025, while 85% comes from commercial properties.

City Council voted to continue the popular Senior Citizen Tax Rebate Program and the H.O.M.E. Improvements Grant program. The budget also increases support for community events, like Frontier Days, Meat Inferno and the July 3rd Community Picnic and Fireworks Show.

Several major capital improvement projects are in the works for next year, including the grand opening of The Greenspace, a major road reconstruction project along East 2nd and Edgewood, and sanitary sewer system improvements.
