EDGERTON, Kan. – (March 27, 2023) Edgerton has been selected to host a Community Housing Advocate Training (CHAT) by United Community Services. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone in our community that wants to learn more about how to address housing issues in Edgerton or address a housing concern.
United Community Services and the Johnson County Health Equity Network are providing a free 6-session training that will be held in April and May. CHAT brings together residents with diverse knowledge and experiences to be a part of the housing solutions conversation.
The training program consists of six two-hour sessions designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to engage in advocacy that addresses housing needs in Edgerton. The goal is to help people find common ground when addressing housing challenges that affect everyone. Participants will receive a stipend for each session, and food and childcare will be provided.
The sessions will include:
- An overview of housing data from Edgerton and Johnson County
- Understanding city and county government functions
- The basics of advocacy, advocacy tools and practice
- Skills and tools for engaging in civil discourse, establishing relationships across differences, and building community connections
