Cyclones In The Outfield Event Traffic

Kara Banks City News

On Saturday, May 14, the City of Edgerton, in partnership with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, is hosting a Cruise-In along Nelson Street as part of the Cyclones in the Outfield Fundraiser. This is a drive-in car show type event.  Vehicles will be “cruising” the street and parking along both sides of the road that evening from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. You are invited to display any cool cars or vehicles you may own.  The event also features a DJ and food truck downtown in the greenspace. At dusk, head up to Martin Creek Park for a “drive-in” movie.  We’ll be showing Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The movie should start around 9 p.m.

Cyclones In the Outfield benefits the students and staff at Edgerton Elementary. Last year, the event raised enough money to cover all school supplies and enrollment fees for every student at Edgerton Elementary and to give every teacher a gift card to purchase any additional items for their classrooms.

To create a safe environment for drivers and pedestrians who would like to check out the cars, we will be closing Nelson Street between E 4th and W. 8th Street to cross traffic between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. During that time, drivers will only be allowed to slowly travel one-way from west to east along Nelson by entering Nelson at 8th Street on the far west end.  Intersections will also be blocked. The intersection of Nelson and 3rd Street will remain open for our public safety partners at the fire department. See the map below. No driveways will be blocked and any residents that live on Nelson will be able to access their homes throughout the event.

If you’d like to show your support for the event and Edgerton Elementary, you can donate by clicking this link. If you have any questions, please contact City Hall at 913.893.6231.

Nelson Street will be one-way during the “Cruise-In” on May 14 as part of the Cyclones In the Outfield fundraiser.
