H.O.M.E. Improvements Program

Applications are closed for 2024. New applications will be accepted beginning January 1, 2025.

The City of Edgerton's Help Owners Make Exterior (HOME) Improvements Program encourages owners of residential properties to invest in exterior improvements that face the street or are publicly visible.

To be considered for the grant, the home must be owner-occupied within Edgerton city limits and current on all property taxes and special assessments. Homeowners must invest at least $500 and are eligible for a 50% reimbursement up to $2,500 every 10 years.

Qualifying Projects

  • Front façade renovations
  • Weatherization projects
  • Handicap/accessibility projects
  • Exterior paint/siding
  • New doors/windows
  • New commercial signage
  • Landscaping (hardscape, rain garden, trees, shrubs, perennials)
  • Facade restoration
  • Concrete work (sidewalks, driveways, front stoop)
  • Roofs

The following expenses are NOT eligible for reimbursement:

  • Purchase of rental of construction tools
  • Lawn Maintenance equipment
  • Tree trimming/removal
  • Construction/replacement of fences
  • Interior home improvements
  • Insurance claim related projects
  • Landscaping (annuals, sprinklers)

Application

Interested in applying? Packets should be dropped off in person at City Hall (404 E. Nelson Street) or through the US Mail to PO Box 255, Edgerton, Kansas 66021. Emailed application packets will not be accepted. Your application must include:

  • A completed application form.
  • W-9 form.
  • Bids from a contractor or, if you’re doing the work yourself, a detailed project cost estimate. (Only submit the bids you intend to proceed with. Multiple bids for the work are not required for grant purposes.)
  • Color photo(s) of the area on your home or property where you are proposing to make the improvements.

City staff reviews submissions as applications are received. A limited amount of funds are available each year. Everyone who applies will be notified of preapproval or denial.

You must prequalify for this program before starting work on improvements to be reimbursed. Project must be completed before the end of the calendar year.

To receive the grant funds at the completion of your project, you must turn in all receipts of eligible expenses and photos of the completed project to City Hall.
