As part of the annual Street Preservation Program, crews will be working in the area around 3rd and Martin applying a new layer of chip seal to the road. Work is scheduled to begin the week of August 14, weather dependant. The chip seal helps preserve the life of the road surface and protect our streets from water damage.
The following roads will receive the chip seal treatment:
- E Martin from 1st to E. 5th
- E McDonald from 1st to E. 4th
- E 3rd from Nelson to the end of the road
- E 4th from Nelson to McDonald
- E 5th from Nelson to Martin
Residents on the above streets will receive 48-hour notice before work begins. Vehicles must be moved off the road and sprinklers should be turned off. During the application, the street will be closed to traffic. Residents will not have access to their properties for approximately 1-2 hours while the chip seal is applied. Work is weather dependent.
The process consists of spraying a mixture to seal the cracks then spreading small chip rock, followed by rollers to embed the rock into the street surface. The process typically takes less than one hour per street and up to 24-hours to cure. Motorists can drive slowly over the surface during the curing process. After application, the street will be swept to reduce loose rock. No parking will be allowed on the street for the first week after the application.
