Hunter Education Course

This comprehensive course is designed to equip new hunters with the essential knowledge and skills to hunt safely, ethically, and responsibly. Topics include hunter responsibility and ethics, fair chase, firearm history and basics, ammunition, gun and field safety, bowhunting, conservation and wildlife management, Kansas wildlife, outdoor emergencies, state hunting regulations, and boating safety for hunters.

Led by a team of four to five certified volunteer instructors, the class blends lectures and hands-on learning. All study materials are provided by the State of Kansas. Students should bring a pen and highlighter and must attend all sessions to receive certification.

Important Notes:

  • Required for anyone born on or after July 1, 1957, who wishes to hunt in Kansas.

  • Individuals who have completed an equivalent course in another state are not required to attend.

  • Snacks and lunch will be provided during the Saturday session.
