Trash Collection
The City of Edgerton contracts with for solid waste collection and disposal services. The service includes one 95-gallon container for garbage and one 65-gallon container for recyclables. Additional trash cans or larger recycling bins are available for residents that request one (charges may apply). Only trash that fits inside the bin will be collected. Overage stickers can be purchased at City Hall during normal business hours for $1.50 each.
Trash collection is on Wednesdays. Bins must be at the curb by 7 a.m.
The monthly residential trash rate is $15.00 per customer. The City subsidizes the solid waste charge by 50% to $7.50 per month. Trash and recycling is included in your monthly bill.
Yard Waste
The service also provides curbside collection of yard waste. Resident can place up to eight bags or bundles of grass, plant clippings, leaves and tree limbs once per week. During the months of March-April and August-November, the weekly limit is 12 items. Overage stickers can be purchased at City Hall during normal business hours for $1.50 each.
Bulk Item Pick-up
Gardner Disposal will also collect one bulk furniture item per dwelling per week at no additional charge. Residents need to contact to schedule the bulk pick-up no later than the Monday before the Wednesday pick-up. Additional fees may apply for more than 1 item.
Hazardous Waste
Household chemicals, batteries, paint, oil, pool chemicals, and other items marked toxic cannot be placed in your curbside collection bins. Johnson County residents should dispose of those items at the or at the Johnson County Household Hazardous Waste facility. Schedule an appointment to drop off items or visit on the second Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Johnson County Household Hazardous Waste facility located in Mission off of I-35 and Lamar is now closed. Johnson County will be moving to a new facility in Overland Park, tentatively set to open in mid-June. All of the same materials will be accepted, paint can be purchased through the re-blended paint program, and the Free Store will still have usable items “free” to the public. If you have paint or other household chemicals that you need to get rid of we ask that you hold onto those items until the new location opens in June.
Recycling
Curbside recycling is included with residents weekly trash collection. Recyclables are unlimited and should remain loose in the bin.
Only paper, cardboard, certain plastic items, and steel or aluminum cans are allowed. To make absolutely sure your plastic is recyclable, you also need to check to make sure it displays one of these four codes: #1, #2, #4 or #5. All items must be free of food and debris. Bagged recycling will not be picked up.
If you regularly set out more than the cart will hold, please contact City Hall for an additional cart. An additional charge of $2 monthly will apply.
Glass cannot be recycled curbside. Please take glass to the purple Ripple Glass bins. Find one near you.
