City Council to Host 2026 Budget Work Session July 10

The Edgerton City Council plans to review the proposed FY2026 Budget during a work session on Thursday, July 10 following their normal business meeting.

This budget covers the 2026 fiscal year, which begins January 1. The proposed budget includes a 0.2% reduction in the mill rate to 29.602 while maintaining focus on core resident priorities including streets, facilities, law enforcement, and development. This is despite ongoing economic uncertainty, which is driving up the cost of City services and projects. Fee increases for City of Edgerton water, wastewater and trash amount to $3.69 per month for the average homeowner.

“City Council is very clear that they want to see effective, efficient use of tax dollars to benefit the community. As more buildings from Logistics Park Kansas City come fully onto the tax roll, the City will capture those dollars to make improvements citywide,” says Beth Linn, City Administrator.

Since 2009, the City of Edgerton has lowered the mill rate by over 14 mills. Residential property taxes now make up just 15% of the City’s total property tax revenue, compared to 85% from non-residential property. This is a marked difference from 2011, when 92% of property tax revenue came from residents. Council policy only allows the City to capture residential valuation increases up to the rate of inflation, which for the 2026 budget is 2.9%.

Budget Highlights

The proposed budget for 2026 invests in streets, facilities, and other priorities based upon the community desires shown in the most recent Citizen Survey. This budget maintains funding for the popular H.O.M.E. Improvements Grant and Senior Property Tax Rebate Program, which directly help Edgerton residents without any additional administrative costs.

Further, the FY 2026 budget continues funding for popular community events and new active recreation programming in The Greenspace to maintain our high quality of life. The budget also includes additional funding for the America 250 celebration next summer.

Public Input

The public is welcome to attend the work session on Thursday, July 10th. No public comment will be taken during that meeting and no votes will be taken that night. The work session will be held directly after the conclusion of the Council’s regular business meeting that begins at 7:00 p.m. in City Hall.

A public hearing when residents can weigh in on the proposed budget is scheduled for August 28, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. in City Hall.
